Good variety of draught beer choices. Very cosy place. We went there at night (around 9-9:30) when everything else was closed, and surprisingly Beer Komachi was the only place open nearby. The chicken karaage was so-so, but the available draught beers were really good. I tried the Galaxy IPA (Ise Kadoya Brewery) and Fuyu no Kimagure (Kyoto Brewing Company), both were really good. Would recommend this place if you're looking for good beer in a chic place
MoreGreat place for a quality craft beer.
Delicious food with spoty delivery. The shrimp were good and the smoked fish is superb. Very odd choice of decor. Every thing is unfinished plywood!
MoreVery tasty. This place can get busy so go early. They have an excellent beer list. Staff speaks some English and the menu has English. I'd highly recommend the friendly atmosphere and good beer. The food was excellent and came out quick. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Would be difficult to go to with a group larger than 4-6 people.
MoreOrder the vegetable katsu, omokase sashimi, and any foreigner will be happy. Almost everything available in English!
MoreA great chill place to go with a bunch of friends to enjoy the local tap of Kyoto. They have daily changes to their menu and beer depending on the day and what beer that came in that morning. An awesome place to kick back and to enjoy an izakaya experience after a long day of touring Kyoto and shrines. The place seems to be frequented by lots of tourists and locals so prepare to get cozy!!
MoreA great little beer place! Good food and drinks.
The restaurant my wife and I kept coming back to. The vibe had a nice balance of locals and travelers which gave it a welcoming/friendly vibe. The beer selection was excellent. They really strive to gather a good selection of local beer. The food was really great too and offered a wide variety of options.
MoreReally nice little place down a shopping street in Higashiyama. Great decor, friendly staff and lots of beers from Kyoto and Japan to try. They also do food which looked good.
MoreCozy bar, nice craft beers with the common price in japan and amazing food!
Good craft beer isn’t the easiest or cheapest to find in Japan. This place has reasonably priced craft beer (8 taps the night we went). The food was good, fried chicken and venison, Gorgonzola salad was delicious and came out quickly. The carbonara didn’t arrive until after we finished all the rest of the food and two beers.
MoreNice little place with good food! The beer selection isn't huge, but they had craft beer from few different Japanese breweries on tap, and a few craft beers on bottle when I was there.
MoreFood was excellent, nice little selection of beers, cool atmosphere. Its a nice little bar in a small alley. It is within walking distance of alot of the tourist spots. If you are looking to take a break, stop by here for sure.
MoreGreat place, great service
They have a really excellent local stout that I highly recommend
Currently sitting in here... great little place. The food is all excellent and good selection of beers. Informative English speaking staff.
MoreFantastic food and good Japanese craft beers. What’s not to love?
Great little spot in Kyoto for beer. I thought the beer selection was pretty good, although I did not try any of the ales (had a white, porter and lager)Ordered an appetizer that was fine, but only came for the drinks.Good service, clean, friendly. Recommended.
MoreYum! Great service, lovely atmosphere & damn fine food! Grilled pork & mozzarella roll... delicious!
MoreGreat bar, really cozy. The beer selection is great, maybe 5 or 6 draft beers at any one time but all really high quality.Bar food is amazing, all cooked in front of you. We had the mixed appetizers for 2 people (picture attached) with excellent sashimi. It's possible to park your bikes, just pop in and they will open the shutters to the side for your to stow your bike during your visit.Be aware though that this place is tiny, so if it's full when you arrive you might need to stand while you wait for a table. Also, notices where up for an upcoming refurbishment from 7th January 2019 for 2 months which means it will be closed.
MoreGreat beer. Great food. Small portions and high prices.
Really good beer. Small selection but great quality. On a quiet street away from tourist drag its worth a detour
MoreThis place has been the best food experience in Kyoto by far! The beer is amazing, the food is astounding, and the atmosphere is so awesome! If you're in Kyoto, you must stop by! One lady (possibly the manger) came by and even explained our sashimi special in English and it was so kind! Favorite by far. Thank you Beer Komachi for the great experience!
MoreInteresting small place with a good selection of craft beers. Both the beers and the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend this place.
MoreEverything we tried from French fries to bacon wrapped veggies to chicken yakitori was excellent! Plus they had a really good salad which is not that common in Japan. The beers were good too. The ambiance is a mix of locals and foreigners, very convivial! Recommended!
MoreA craft beer lover's paradise in Japan! All Japanese beers you could never find are probably here. And the food...wow!
MoreNice beer, friendly staff! but the sashimi platter is ridiculous expensive for the amount you get.come here to have a beer or two or an appetizer. don't come hungry.
MoreVery nice place to “chill” after a long day of walk and visit around Kyoto. Very nice staff, rapid services and of course very goos food. Highly recommended place!
MoreGood food. Good beer. Great staff. Go!
Nice craft beer place with an excellent, friendly team! They gave us great recommendations (pictured is the Kyoto Brewing Ichigo Ichie) and on top of that told us where we could nice ceramics around Kyoto. We didn’t get any food but the menu/ items on other patrons’ plates looked delicious!
MoreNice selection of local and imported craft beers. Food seems a bit pricey compared to other bars. Quiet for a bar.
MoreIf you're in the neighbourhood of Gion, this is worth the visit... Takes a good 10 min walking. Very nice little selection of local craft beers, in a very relaxed /chill atmosphere. For the beer lovers out there I'd definitely recommend it!
MoreSearching for good craft beer in Japan? THIS is the place you need to go to! A fine selection of Japanese and North American craft beers and an awesome food menu. This is gem tucked away in a side street of Kyoto.
MoreBeer Komachi doesn't have the cheapest beer, but the beer selection is really great! Food is amazing, just be prepared to wait a bit for it, since its lovingly prepared in a small kitchen.
MoreIt was a store and David Bowie was here!
Interesting small plates, good for vegetarians and great beer
If you're looking to talk with locals that enjoy the company of foreigners or ex-pats who now live in Japan, this is definitely a place to check out. Food and drink are great, and the space is very cozy so don't expect to roll in with more than 3-4 people comfortably.
MoreFantastic little bar, craft-ale-meets-izakaya, a must visit for any (craft) beer fanatic visiting Kyoto. Excellent, friendly service and superb bar snacks. We had a platter of smoked meats and cheeses that would put a lot of UK bars to shame. Great range of locally brewed Japanese beers too. A perfect place to try a sake too, the staff give a generous overpour into a little lacquer box under your glass. When you've finished the glass your pour the rest into your glass and drink it up!! 😋A little hard to find, but the 'treasure hunt' was definitely worth it.
MoreNice selection of crafted beers Friendly staff
Spent several hours here drinking great Japanese craft beer and eating fantastic plates of food. Simon spoke good english and is a overwhelmingly nice person. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the beer selection and helped me pick out some delicious food from their menu. A very cozy place that a nice place to relax after a day of typical touristy stuff.
MoreI don’t speak Japanese but having good time in here
Nice little craft beer shop that’s tucked away in a little lane. It’s has a great selection of local beers on tap and the bar snacks were delicious as well.A little out of the way compared to the more happening areas of Kyoto are, but well worth the visit
MoreFun spot. Not very many locals and kinda touristy but the food was good! And great selection of beer .
MoreTucked away from the main tourist heavy sites, Beer Komachi has a diverse selection of craft beers and a delectable menu of fresh seafood, seasonal vegetable tempura, and sizzling teppanyaki. Would recommend to anyone wanting a moment to catch their breath and enjoy a pint!
MoreBeer Komachi was a great beer experience. The guys behind the counter knew what they were talking about and the beer was really good. I tried stout, lager and one of the IPA:s. All were amazing. They serve some food too. We did not try it but the menu was solid and the food we saw coming out of the kitchen looked tasty. A nice place for beer lovers!
MoreAbsolutely amazing place. Beer is good. Food is even better. The sashimi made me think I had never eaten real fish before. Venison teppanyaki was similarly amazing. This is truly a must for anyone even remotely close to Kyoto.
MoreI had a lovely night here, not just great selection of craft beer, but also beautiful food.
MoreGood craft beer
Great local craft beer pub rotating beers all the time
A hidden gem. Whereas you'll easily go to the beautiful Pontocho Alley and end up in a tourist trap, Beer Komachi is a gastro pub with delicious food, fresh and with amazing tasting surprises. You can't go wrong if what you are looking for is a mix of Kyoto and home (London in my case). Friendly place and beer varieties are superb!
